Ryan Whyte (he/him) joined Ween & Kozek at the beginning of 2025. He initially joined the firm as a law clerk and later as an associate attorney.
Ryan's practice covers tenants' rights, the Loft Law, and rent regulated tenancies, all through various stages of the litigation process. His practice of law and passion for advocacy are informed by his previous experience as a community organizer where he worked alongside housing activists, public interest lawyers, and state and local judges in pursuit of social and housing justice.
Prior to joining Ween & Kozek, Ryan obtained his Bachelor of Science from American University and his Juris Doctor from Cardozo School of Law, graduating summa cum laude and magna cum laude respectively. While at Cardozo, he received a number of honors and awards, including selections to the Dean's Distinguished Scholars and Order of the Coif. He also served as teaching assistant for several courses and is a published author in the Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal.
His first experience as a litigator came during his legal internship with the Abolitionist Law Center. At ALC Ryan refined his legal and client-facing skills working on an array of civil and administrative proceedings. His advocacy in this role was directed at protecting the rights and dignity of his clients in carceral facilities. During law school, Ryan also represented creative clients in clinical and internship roles at Spirit Music Group, Romano Law, and the Filmmaker's Legal Clinic. In the latter of these roles, he represented documentary filmmakers whose projects focused on social justice issues.
With respect to legal practice, Ryan is also highly interested and experienced in entertainment and intellectual property law, especially pertaining to music and copyright. In his free time, Ryan is actively involved in New York’s vibrant music scene and also enjoys gardening and playing basketball.
